Compliance Countdown: Navigating Employment Equity Requirements

The National Employment Equity workshops conducted by the Department of Employment and Labour concluded on 11 July. Designated employers must prepare an Employment Equity Plan covering the period from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2030.

Compliance means completing an analysis, setting annual targets, and finalising the plan before 1 September 2025. When setting numerical goals, employers must consider their workforce profile, the relevant five-year sectoral targets, and national or regional Economically Active Population figures. The Minister retains power to prescribe further targets; however, the Act prohibits quotas and insists on appointing suitably qualified candidates.
