Young Minds aims to contribute to Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr remaining an employer of choice for young professionals, and ensuring that young professionals are informed of the opportunities available to them to develop themselves whilst pursuing their profession.
Young Minds is a committee elected from the body of Associates within the firm. The committee is elected based on votes cast by the Associates in the firm and is made up of a representative group of young professionals from both our Cape Town and Johannesburg offices.
The committee members are elected for a term of two years, and co-opt other Associates where necessary to achieve Young Minds' goals.
The committee is accountable to the Associate body and to Management of the firm and functions to drive initiatives in the firm that are aimed at the development of our young professionals. The committee's initiatives include working with the firm's Knowledge Management function to identify training needs within the cohort of Associates, representing the Associate body on the firm's Employment Equity committee and other committees aimed at ensuring the firm meets its statutory and transformation goals, spearheading a tiered mentorship system together with the firm's HR function – in terms of which Candidate Attorneys in the firm develop a mentor/mentee relationship with a Senior Associate to chart a course for their career development in the firm; and the committee also hosts networking, integration and other events to ensure that all Associates in the firm feel part of the whole, working towards achieving the firm's values.
