About Evangelia

After graduating from the University of the Witwatersrand with an LLB in 2023, Evangelia joined Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr in 2024 as a Candidate Attorney. During her articles, she gained broad exposure to the firm's Dispute Resolution (Construction & Engineering), Banking, Finance & Projects, and Trusts & Estates Law practices.

Following her admission as an Attorney and Notary Public in 2026, she was retained as an Associate in the Competition Law practice.

Areas of expertise

Experience

Evangelia’s experience in the Competition law space includes but is not limited to:

  • Drafting and filing intermediate and large merger notifications and assisting clients with obtaining merger approvals within complex corporate and commercial transactions;
  • Advising on merger notifiability, change of control assessments and transaction structuring under the Competition Act;
  • Engaging with the Competition Commission and Tribunal throughout merger and enforcement proceedings;
  • Negotiating merger conditions with the Competition Commission, particularly in relation to public interest considerations;
  • Conducting competition analyses, including market definition, market shares and competitive effect assessments across various sectors, including real estate, retail, liquor and insurance;
  • Assisting with the filing of, and responses to, complaints and investigations before the Competition Commission;
  • Consulting with clients, briefing and engaging with counsel, and preparing matters for hearing; and
  • Drafting competition law opinions and advising on horizontal and vertical restrictive practices and cartel-related conduct.

In addition to the above, Evangelia has experience in providing advice on matters arising under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 ("CPA"), namely:

  • Reviewing existing consumer-facing contracts to ascertain degree of compliance with the CPA;
  • Drafting legal opinions on optimising CPA compliance aimed at mitigating legal and commercial risk; and
  • Assisting with litigation proceedings relating to a consumer complaint in the National Consumer Tribunal
