All licensees who were awarded an individual commercial sound broadcasting service licence in December 2008 and whose licences are due to expire in December 2018 must submit an application for the renewal of their licences in accordance with the Process and Procedures Regulations for Individual Licences and Special Temporary Authorities, 2010, no earlier than 12 months and no later than 6 months, prior to the expiry date of the licence.

Kaya FM, 5FM, Metro FM, Lesedi FM and Radio 702 are just some of the licensees who will have to apply for the renewal of their licences before the end of May 2018. These popular radio stations will not be able to provide broadcasting services, if they have not applied to renew their broadcast licences – a disastrous consequence which is easily avoided by the timeous submission of a renewal application.
