CDH welcomes John Gillmer to our Corporate and Commercial team

CDH is thrilled to announce the expansion of its fund formation practice with the appointment of leading investment funds lawyer John Gillmer.

“We have top level capability and recognition in doing deals, including private equity deals. However, we recognised the need to enhance our fund formation capability accordingly. John’s team will provide that,“ says David Thompson, Director and Regional Practice Head for Corporate and Commercial at CDH, Cape Town.

John is a corporate lawyer specialising in the formation of investment funds and structuring of financial products, having established a number of hedge funds, private equity funds, managed futures funds and fixed income funds in South Africa and, more broadly, in the continent of Africa. John has advised numerous local and international financial institutions, including, long-term insurers, asset managers, private equity and hedge fund managers and banks in relation to the South African regulatory environment, which includes the Banks Act, the Collective Investment Schemes Control Act, the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act, the Pension Funds Act, the Long-Term Insurance Act, the Financial Markets Act and exchange control regulations.

Recent and notable clients include Investec Bank Limited, ABSA Capital, Novare Capital Partners, Coronation Fund Managers and UCKI. Most recently, John advised Mbuyu Capital Partners.
