PAIA annual report submission reminder

We would like to remind you that the Information Officer (IO) of every public body and the Heads of Private Bodies (HPBs) or Deputy Information Officer (DIOs) are required to submit their annual PAIA reports about requests for access to records received and processed to the Information Regulator. New CCTV by-law from the City of Johannesburg

The council for the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality (CoJ) recently approved the Privately-Owned Closed-Circuit Television Surveillance Camera By-Law (CCTV Camera By-Law). The CCTV Camera By-Law aims to promote the lawful and constitutional use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in public areas through the regulation and registration of privately-owned CCTV surveillance cameras. According to the CoJ, this is in the hopes of creating a safer city and safeguarding the constitutional rights to human dignity privacy, security of persons, freedom of movement and general well-being of the community.

Navigating the Information Regulator’s guidance note on direct marketing

On 3 December 2024, the Information Regulator released a guidance note on direct marketing (Guidance Note) under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Leading into the new year, this Guidance Note is likely to change the way in which organisations approach their direct marketing strategies.
