Alex and the panellists explored how the continued increase in fuel costs is affecting transport fares, business operations, and the daily expenses of ordinary households across the country. The discussion also highlighted concerns about the pressure high fuel prices are placing on the cost of living and overall economic activity, as well as the role of taxation and government levies in the current fuel pricing structure.

The panel further debated whether the existing tax measures are sustainable and whether enough is being done to cushion wananchi from repeated fuel price hikes. Questions were also raised about the effectiveness of current government interventions and whether additional relief measures are needed.

Alex emphasised that there should be more focus on the budget side. The country can reduce taxes on fuel and other taxes in general if there is a corresponding downward budgetary adjustment.
