CDH acts as legal counsel to Vodacom Group Limited and Vodafone Kenya Limited on its acquisition of a further effective 20% of the issued share capital of Safaricom PLC as well as its acquisition of the Government of Kenya's right to future Safaricom PLC dividends amounting to KES55,700,000,000.

CDH's Corporate & Commercial, Banking, Finance & Projects, Competition Law, and Tax & Exchange Control teams acted for Vodacom Group Limited and Vodafone Kenya Limited in a recent transaction whereby Vodacom Group Limited will acquire a further effective 20% of the issued share capital of Safaricom PLC for a total consideration of USD2.1 billion (approximately R36 billion) as well as acquire the Government of Kenya's right to future Safaricom PLC dividends amounting to KES55,700,000,000 for an upfront payment of KES40,200,000,000.

The transactions are now in their implementation phase and are subject to various conditions precedent and regulatory approvals.
