Are there different classes of work permits in Somaliland?
Somaliland does not have a formal classification system for permits, but different information is required from foreigners looking to be employed by the private sector or NGOs vis-รก-vis those seeking to be employed by the Government.
The general guidance, as per Article 25 of the Somaliland Immigration Law, is that a foreign person shall not undertake any activities for gain in the territory of Somaliland unless they have been granted a work permit by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. On granting a work permit to a foreign person, the Minister of Internal Affairs shall consider whether a citizen, who can suitably undertake the work for which the foreign person is sought for, can be found. This will be ascertained by the Ministry of Health and Labour and the relevant ministry that deals with the activities the foreign person would undertake.
