Charlene Gouws

Charlene completed her articles at A&O Shearman, gaining experience in banking, project finance, and disputes. She qualified as an Attorney in South Africa in May 2021 and joined the projects team at A&O Shearman in August 2022, where she advised lenders, sponsors, and developers on various project finance transactions, with a particular focus on renewable energy and infrastructure projects. She joined the White & Case projects team in January 2025 and worked closely with the Paris and London teams in connection with the financing of energy and infrastructure projects in the Middle East and Africa.

• Financing of a 97.5MW solar PV facility for the generation and sale of energy to each of Sasol South Africa Limited and Air Liquide Large Industries South Africa Proprietary Limited.

• Financing of the 69MW of wind power facility to provide renewable energy for the production of green hydrogen at Sasol South Africa Limited’s Sasolburg operations.

• Refinancing in connection with a water desalination plant in Saudi Arabia.

• Financing of a water desalination plant in Morocco.

• Financing in connection with an airport terminal in Turkey.

• Refinancing in connection with a 7.5 MW solar PV facility in Burundi.

• USD11,000,000 general banking facility to Africa's leading cement producer.

• Financing of a 128MW hybrid facility (solar, wind, battery) to produce dispatchable electricity for injection into the grid.
