Call for public comments on the Upstream Petroleum Resources Development Bill

In our previous alert, we discussed the outcome of the meetings held by the Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy (Portfolio Committee) insofar as it relates to the public participation process for the Upstream Petroleum Resources Development Bill (UPRDB), currently before Parliament.

The Portfolio Committee agreed on 24 May 2022 that there will be two phases for public participation, namely written submissions and public hearings.

On 28 June 2022, the first phase commenced, as the Portfolio Committee invited the public to submit written comments and indicate any interests in making oral submissions on the UPRDB.

The public is invited to submit written comments or indicate their interest in making a verbal presentation via email to:

Attention: Mr Arico Kotze
Commitee Secretary Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy

Email: akotze@parliament.gov.za

Any enquiries may be directed to Mr Arico Kotze telephonically on:

Tel: 021 403 3662

Cell: 083 709 8470

The deadline for submissions of any comments is 16h00 on Friday, 29 July 2022.

Given the timeline for submission of written comments, we anticipate that the public hearings will take place during the remainder of 2022.

The CDH Oil & Gas team will be keeping a close eye on the developments as the UPRDB makes its way through the public participation process.
