Taryn explained that on 23 March, the Minister of Home Affairs issued a temporary visa concession applicable to airline passengers and crew impacted by airspace closures in the Middle East and Gulf region.
Taryn noted that the directive recognises the challenges faced by foreign nationals who are unable to travel to or through the affected regions and is intended to allow them to remain in South Africa legally for an extended period without facing adverse consequences. The concession applies until 31 May 2026, or until a ceasefire is declared and travel routes reopen, whichever occurs first.
Taryn further clarified that foreign nationals in South Africa whose long-term visas expired on or before 31 March 2026 may apply for a new visa prior to the expiry of their current status, provided they meet all prescribed requirements.
