Alex Kanyi, Partner in the Tax & Exchange Control practice at CDH Kenya, was recently featured on KBC with Betty Kiptum, where he shared expert insights on the highlights of Kenya’s proposed 2025/2026 national budget, the largest in the country’s history, estimated at Ksh 4.2 trillion.

Alex noted that the government continues to spend beyond its means, budgeting for a significant deficit relative to projected revenue collections, grants, and aid. He pointed out that despite ambitious revenue targets, the government has consistently struggled to collect enough.

Alex emphasised the urgent need for the government to broaden the tax base in order to enhance revenue generation without placing additional pressure on an already strained taxpayer pool.

The 2025/2026 Budget will be presented in Parliament next week on Thursday, 12 June 2025.
