This deal is significant because Deevabits is a social enterprise that distributes solar products to off-grid rural areas in Kenya using last-mile distribution approach.

NEASA and Sakeliga file an urgent application to interdict the implementation of the sectoral numerical targets
On 15 April 2025, the Minister of Employment and Labour (Minister) published a notice identifying national economic sectors and determining the applicable sectoral numerical targets in terms of the Employment Equity Act 55 of 1998, as amended. Designated employers are expected to comply by implementing new employment equity plans that take into consideration the sectoral numerical targets.

Comments on the Draft Regulations must be submitted on or before 10th October2025.

Merger control in the Kenyan energy sector
The Energy Act, Cap 314 Laws of Kenya (Act) is the primary legislation that provides the legal framework for the energy, electricity and petroleum sectors in Kenya. The Act also establishes the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), which regulates renewable energy, electricity and petroleum undertakings in Kenya. In addition to the Act, merger control is also provided for in the recently enacted Energy (Electric Power Undertaking Licensing) Regulations, 2024 (2024 Licensing Regulations) that repeal the (Electricity Licensing) Regulations, 2012 (2012 Licensing Regulations) which were promulgated under the Energy Act, 2006.
