Our work

  • Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr is representing Lualaba Power and Mining Engineering Services, the leading DRC-based bulk chemical supplier and an affiliate of the Vinmart group.  Our South Africa-based banking & finance team is advising Lualaba Power and Mining Engineering Services on English law in connection with its role as project company and sponsor MES on the project development and financing of a US$550 million hydroelectric dam project on the Lualaba river in the DRC.
The project will provide hydroelectrical power to a number of global mining groups with operations in the DRC. This is one of the largest and most significant infrastructure projects on the African continent at the moment.  The transaction reached financial close in July 2024, and the project is currently under development.
  • CDH is representing GGBC, a subsidiary of Glencore, the leading Switzerland-based global commodity and mining company.  Our South Africa-based dispute resolution team is assisting GGBC with defending a claim relating to the alleged infringement of the claimant's intellectual property, along with unlawful competition allegations and restraint of trade claims against certain employees of GGBC.
