CDH Kenya appoints new Tax & Exchange Control Director, Alex Kanyi

With in-depth, cross-border experience, backed by an exceptional academic record, Alex brings his significant expertise in tax structuring, tax dispute resolution, risk management, restructuring, legal audits, legal due diligence, contracts, company secretarial, acquisitions, corporate governance as well as regulatory compliance.
Since November 2013, Alex has held various roles including Regulatory Lead – Tax and Regulatory Services for KPMG in East Africa. His work comprises of successfully representing various companies from across the globe in defending claims at the Tax Appeals Tribunal and advising on tax structuring for projects including (but not limited to) an Engineering Procurement and Construction project for an 83 MW geothermal power plant. In addition, Alex was pivotal in advising a global motor vehicle company based in France to minimise the tax implications on restructuring their operations in East Africa through an asset transfer deal, as well as advising a tier one bank on the acquisition of a fund management and trustee firm; advising a tier one bank on setting up an Employment Share Ownership Plan across its group with presence in 11 African countries.
Alex’s impressive academic record places him in a unique position; he is an approved Trainer via the Africa Facilitators Accreditation Program and a Legal Audit Practitioner. He holds a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law and is a Certified Secretary via the Kenya Accountants and Secretaries National Examinations Board (KASNEB). Alex obtained his Bachelor of Laws Degree (Second Upper) through Moi University and is a Certified Public Accountant through KASNEB.
