Jaco says the Investing in African Mining Indaba plays a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of the mining industry in South Africa. It was established as a platform to promote foreign investment – and it has evolved into a global forum for discussing the challenges and opportunities facing the mining sector.

Jaco says that navigating that progress positively in the mining sector requires a multifaceted approach that balances economic growth on the one hand with environmental and social considerations on the other – and also being inclusive. This entails embracing innovation to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact, while also prioritising stakeholder engagement and community development.

The exercise of concurrent jurisdiction between competition authorities and sector-specific regulators has been a contentious topic, particularly where sector-specific pricing is at issue.
