Director

Hedda Schensema is a Director in our Employment Law practice. She focuses on employment and labour law. From time to time Hedda acts in the Labour Court as a Judge and regularly appears in the Labour Court, CCMA and bargaining councils for major corporations and public entities and provides training on various aspects of labour relations and legislation including performance management, general workplace discipline and amendments to our legislation.

Hedda Schensema joined Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr as a Director in 2020.

Hedda advises employers on employment related aspects of transactional, litigation and dispute resolution, regulatory and compliance related matters in the public and private spheres. 

Hedda has extensive experience to effectively strategise and advise on all employment related matters, training, reviews of employment contracts, restraint of trades, unfair competition, and employee policies within various workplaces.

As the world commemorates the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, in South Africa we place a specific focus on no violence against women and children. The government sent out a warning to all South African employers during the recent global mobility conference, held by Xpatweb. Be warned of the zero-tolerance stance of the employment of illegal foreign nationals

CDH's Employment Law experts, Hedda Schensema and Taryn York, discuss the warning government has sent out to South African employers, in relation to the hiring of illegal foreign workers, during the recent global mobility conference, held by Xpatweb. During the conference, government announced that it is adopting a zero-tolerance stance on the hiring of illegal foreign workers in South Africa. The Department of Home Affairs is calling upon all employers to ensure that their expatriate staff are in possession of legally obtained work visas and have confirmed that it will be taking a ‘no-mercy’ stance in respect of employers who do not comply.
