How long does the company incorporation process take in Namibia?

The general timelines are:

  • Name reservation: Usually one to two business days if the name is distinctive and not undesirable.
  • Incorporation: Around 15 to 20 business days from complete lodgement (longer if documents require clarification).

The time to establish a company can be negated by the purchase of a shelf company. A shelf company is a company that has already been registered with BIPA, has a registration number and a certificate of incorporation and is metaphorically ‘sitting on a shelf’, waiting to be bought by a client. Once a shelf company is bought, the owner may customise it by amending the name, directors, auditors, address, etc. Upon registration of the changes, the owner of a shelf company is issued with a certificate to commence business and can immediately start doing business.
