Roelf joined Hofmeyr Herbstein and Gihwala (now Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr) in 2005  as a Candidate Attorney. Shortly  after being admitted as attorney in 2007, he joined a niche corporate advisory firm based in Cape Town, where he gained valuable commercial experience. Roelf rejoined Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr in April 2008  as an Associate. He was promoted to Senior Associate in 2009  and became and Director in April 2012.

Some of the major recent transactions which Roelf have been involved in are:

  • Advising Mettle Solar Investments Proprietary Limited in relation to the reorganisation of its shareholding and the introduction of Gridworks Development Partners LLP, a limited liability partnership wholly owned by CDC Group plc, as investor for an aggregate consideration of R106.7 million.
  • Advising Tradehold and Collins Property Projects Proprietary Limited ("CPP") in relation to the restructuring of its South African portfolio such that CPP became the sole holding company of its South African assets via its two subsidiaries, Imbali Props 21 Proprietary Limited and Saddle Path 69 Proprietary Limited, and the acquisition by U REIT Collins (Pty) Ltd (a wholly-owned subsidiary of I Group Financial Holdings Proprietary Limited, of a 25.5% interest in CPP for an aggregate price of R833million.
  • Advising two of South Africa's largest banks in relation to various secured and unsecured debt funding transactions with a total value exceeding R1,5billion.
  • Advising Tradehold Limited in the restructuring, unbundling and listing on the JSE of its non-property investments into Mettle Investments Limited.
  • Advising Tradehold Limited on its R1,25bn listed B Preference Share Programme.
  • Advising Tradehold Limited on the acquisition of a portfolio of 151 commercial, industrial and retail property assets located in South Africa from the Collins group of companies for an aggregate consideration of R1,7billon.
  • Advising Traxtion (Maurius) Limited (formerly Sheltam (Mauritius) Limited) on the introduction of Pan-African Infrastructure Investment Fund 2 as strategic investor for an undisclosed sum, and associated restructure of the shareholding in Traxtion (Maurius) Limited (formerly Sheltam (Mauritius) Limited) in anticipation of such introduction.
  • The IFLR1000 2019 and 2020 recommended Roelof as a notable practitioner in Banking and M&A.
