Lee Shacksnovis


Lee Shacksnovis is an Associate in our Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice. She specializes in and advises on commercial, information technology, intellectual property, data protection and telecommunications law.

She has particular experience in drafting a broad range of information technology and sourcing agreements, including outsourcing agreements, software licence agreements, services agreements and joint venture agreements. Lee has advised clients on compliance with privacy laws and data protection regulation including the Protection of Personal Information Act and the European Union General Data Protection Regulation.

Lee has worked in a variety of industries and sectors, both local and international.

Lee joined Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr as a Candidate Attorney in 2018. She was appointed as an Associate in January 2020.

Transactional work 

  • Advising a JSE listed insurance company in respect of outsourcing agreements, the migration of certain IT services to the cloud and general advice in respect of technology transactions.
  • Providing general advice to an international technology company including reviewing NDAs, drafting licence and services agreements and providing advice generally.
  • Advising an AgriTech company on its licensing and royalty arrangements in Africa as well as the transfer of certain intellectual property rights to an offshore structure.
  • Advising and assisting a private management consulting and ICT company in the acquisition of a professional services and software product company.

Privacy and data protection 

  • Advising one of South Africa's retail banks on its obligations under the Protection of Personal Information Act ("POPI") and the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") (together, "Applicable Data Protection Laws") and generally on data protection requirements applicable to potential client offerings.
  • Advising a biotech company in respect of its obligations under Applicable Data Protection Laws.

Intellectual Property 

  • Advising various companies on the transfer of certain intellectual property rights to an offshore structure and drafting various agreements applicable thereto.


  • Assisting a private investment company conduct a due diligence investigation and providing general advice in respect of an acquisition of a large media and publishing company (transaction value R1 billion).
  • Advising a multinational technology company on the regulatory requirements in South Africa for providing over-the-top (OTT) media services
  • Advising a JSE listed financial services group on the requirements for a mobile virtual network operator
  • Advising a reseller of signal boosters in regard to the type approval procedure
