Laura-Anne joined Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr as a Candidate Attorney in 2018. She was retained as an Associate Designate in 2020.

 

Environmental

  • Assisting with objections and administrative appeal applications under the National Environmental Management Act, No. 107 of 1998 ("NEMA") and the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, No. 28 of 2002 ("MPRDA");

  • Advising on heritage approval and permitting requirements prescribed by the national Heritage Resources Act, No 25 of 1999; and

  • Preparing applications for Environmental Authorisations ("EA") and EA amendment applications in terms of NEMA.

Mining

  • Assisting as part of the team with advice to lenders in relation to the environmental and mining consents required to conduct coal mining operations;

  • Assisting as part of a team with environmental compliance audits of various mines located in the Richtersveld National park;

  • Applying for access to information from the Department of Mineral resources and Energy under the Promotion of Access to Information Act, No. 2 of 2000; and

  • Assisting with the execution and renewal of prospecting rights in terms of the MPRDA.

Energy

  • Conducting due diligence investigations into compliance of solar and wind renewable energy projects with environmental qualification bid requirements published by the Department of Energy in its Request for Qualifications and Proposals for New Generation Capacity under the IPP Procurement Programme; and advising lenders and project developers on bid compliance for the purposes of financial close; and

  • Conducting feasibility due diligence investigations into the environmental consents triggered by the construction of imported LNG infrastructure in Richards Bay, and advising gas-to-power projects in relation to compliance with potential environmental qualification requirements in the proosed request for qualification and proposals to be issued by the Department in respect of the Risk Mitigation Power Purchase Programme.

Food safety and manufacturing

  • Conducting due diligence investigations in terms of the environmental and food safety laws regulating the manufacture and bottling of soft drinks.

General Regulatory

  • Assisting with drafting due diligence investigations and legal audits for clients in the pharmaceutical, cremation and paper & pulp industries.
