For the second year running, corporate South Africa has placed Cliffe Dekker first and rated it an “outstanding” law firm in an annual independent survey assessing the leading law firms in South Africa. As first overall large law firm winner in 2004 and joint first winner in 2005, Cliffe Dekker is the only large law firm to have achieved these rankings and won the prestigious Diamond Arrow award two years in a row.
The Professional Management Review Intelligence (PMR) awards were presented at a business breakfast in Johannesburg on Friday, 11 March 2005.
Cliffe Dekker was rated highest overall in the large law firm category on "quality of service", "knowledge of clients business and business environment", "making deals happen" and "innovation/ creativity in solving clients' business problems". These are key attribute ratings for the firm whose chairman, Chris Ewing, on winning last year's award remarked that it was "the quality of the service we render and our strong client relationships that differentiate us."
Responses to the PMR 2005 survey testify to the fact that the firm has continued to build on its successful approach, applying consistent standards to client care.
"We strive to achieve excellence in everything we do and are committed to providing business solutions - quickly, effectively and at a fair cost - that contribute to the success of our clients," Ewing says. "We believe it is this partnership with our clients that sets us apart."
The survey results are a direct reflection of the perceptions of the respondents who include managing directors, financial directors, company secretaries and in-house corporate lawyers. In all, 704 ratings were sourced from 296 respondents from 268 companies, randomly selected from PMR’s database of SA’s top companies. The firms were rated across 17 attributes and a range of 42 specific legal services.
