In 2009 Monique was appointed to the full time position of knowledge management in the firm. The exclusive focus of this position is disseminating information, providing continuous training to professional staff members and transferring the experience and skills of senior professionals to young lawyers. Prior to this date she practiced with the firm on a part-time basis as a member of the Dispute Resolution: Litigation and Arbitration practice. During the period 2003-2008 she was in the full time employ of the University of Johannesburg as a senior lecturer where she was responsible for the introductory first year law courses, developing CD based study material, lecturing in consumer law as well as legal skills training and moot court competitions. She regularly contributes to law journals and textbooks and currently lectures at the University of Johannesburg in the law of civil procedure.
Career
During her studies at the former Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg) Monique was one of the first female Presidents of the Students' Representative Council. She received various travel awards and represented the University on various overseas visits to universities in the USA and England.
Monique joined Hofmeyr (now Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr) as a Candidate Attorney in 1999. During 2000 she received the Strakosch Memorial Trust Scholarship for overseas studies. She subsequently read for a Masters degree in law at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, focusing on the law of contract, restitution, freedom of expression, public law and international human rights. She was admitted as an Attorney in 2002 and became a Director in 2005.
