Career
Hugh began his career in 1973 at Williams, Gaisford and Steyn as a Candidate Attorney. In 1974 he moved to Bowman, Gilfillan and Blacklock, where he was appointed as an Associate in 1975 and promoted to Partner in 1978. Hugh moved to Cliffe Dekker and Todd (now Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr) as a Director in 1980.

- Advised Nedbank with regard to the structure and standard documentation relating to its home loan product and related security documentation, for the purposes of complying with the National Credit Act
- Reviewed standard agreement of loan for corporate property finance (residential development loans) for First Rand Bank Limited (FNB Division)
- Advised Nedbank with regard to the funding of residential home loans on security of a mortgage bond hypothecating the rights of a lessee in terms of a registered long term lease and settling the loan documentation and the related lending processes
