Student Vacation Programme

We offer a formal, two-week Student Vacation Programme at our Johannesburg and Cape Town offices during the summer and winter holiday periods.

Applications for our Winter Vacation programme (June 2010) close on 1 April 2010.

Applications for our Summer Vacation programme (January 2011) close on 1 August 2010.

Our vacation programme is extremely popular and has gained a reputation as an exciting and rewarding experience. We attract students from universities across the country and they really seem to enjoy their short stay with us.

During the vacation programme, you will be assigned to a team of professionals (directors, associates and candidate attorneys) to work with. Your day-to-day activities may include training sessions; discussion forums; consultations, drafting of documents, court attendances and legal research.

Our vacation programmes are interactive and involved and are designed to give you an intricate understanding of how our firm works, how our fee earners interact and the nature of our relationships with clients. You will work in at least two different practices areas during the course of the vacation programme.

Articles of Clerkship

Applications for candidate attorney positions for 2012 (commencing January 2012) with Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr in Johannesburg and Cape Town close on 1 July 2010.

All candidate attorneys are required to complete a two-year article period, irrespective of whether they have completed the Practical Legal Training Programme (Law School) prior to joining Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr.

Bursaries

Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr awards a number of bursaries to law students on an annual basis.
Applications for 2011 bursaries close on 1 September 2010.

Criteria

To be considered for a bursary an applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • must be a citizen or a permanent resident of South Africa;
  • must be enrolled as a full-time student at a South African university for the LLB degree; and
  • must complete the prescribed application form and submit all supporting documentation before the deadline.

Each application for a bursary is considered on its own merit taking into account the financial merit of the application as well as the following factors:

  • academic performance; and
  • proven excellence in any other field.
